Latin America in the Post-Chávez Era by Luis Fleischman examines how Hugo Chávez’s revolutionary ideology spread across Latin America, weakening democratic institutions and aligning with hostile actors like Iran, guerrilla groups, and drug cartels. The book argues that this movement—known as the Bolivarian Revolution—poses a serious security threat to the United States by promoting anti-U.S. alliances, authoritarianism, and instability in the region. Fleischman calls for stronger U.S. engagement to counter these developments and support democracy in Latin America.
<tableOfContents>What triggered the revolutionary forces in Latin America? -- The origins of the Chávez (Bolivarian) revolution -- The continental expansion of the Chávez revolution -- The emergence of indigenous and new grassroots movements in Latin America -- Chávez's dangerous liaisons with guerrillas and drug cartels -- The Bolivarian revolution's links to Iran and Hezbollah -- The roles of China and Russia -- Regional and U.S. reaction to the Bolivarian revolution -- Halting the advance of the Bolivarian revolution and its allies.</tableOfContents>
